Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is the Campaign for Legal Services?
A: The Campaign for Legal Services is a joint effort to raise funds to help meet the legal aid needs of low-income and elderly New Hampshire residents. The three legal aid organizations supported by the Campaign are: the Legal Advice and Referral Center, the New Hampshire Pro Bono Referral Program and New Hampshire Legal Assistance.
Q: Who does the Campaign benefit?
A: The more than 20,000 low-income and elderly clients the three participating organizations serve per year. These clients receive legal assistance with issues involving housing, health care, subsistence income, domestic abuse and other matters related to basic needs.
Q: Why should I contribute to the Campaign?
A: It’s a good investment: The federal financial and health benefits as well as the child and family support legal aid providers are able to obtain for their clients not only improve the lives of our state’s poorest residents, but also save the community tax dollars by eliminating or reducing the demand for precious local services and resources.
You’ll make a difference: The legal aid organizations supported by the Campaign are only able to help a fraction of the people seeking legal assistance. A donation to the Campaign will enable these organizations to increase their capacity to serve more people who have no other place to turn for help to protect their rights.
Q: What’s the difference between the Campaign and the New Hampshire Bar Foundation?
A: The New Hampshire Bar Foundation is a nonprofit, grant-making charitable foundation whose mission is to support the value of lawyers and the law, to educate the public on the justice system, to reach out to students, and through its Justice Fund program, to identify and support small projects, not all of which are statewide, that represent innovation in the delivery of legal services or address specific or unique legal needs. Unlike making a donation to the Campaign, a donation to the New Hampshire Bar Foundation, while worthwhile, will not provide direct support for legal aid.
Q: Is my gift tax-deductible.
A: Yes.
